Newest Acer Notebook: More “Green” Than Before

Environmental oversight organization, Greenpeace, assess Taiwanese computer vendor, Acer, to be the more “green” right now. The two newest Acer notebook products have been judged eligible to be categorized as environmentally friendly products.

Acer Aspire Notebook, Aspire 3811TZ and 3811TZG is designed to be efficient in energy use, and its constituent components can be easily recycled and bacteria decompose. Acer spokesperson says the two new notebooks that their release is part of Acer’s commitment to creating environmentally friendly products. Greenpeace has acknowledged that this Aspire series are free from the content of PVC (polyvinyl chloride) and BFRs (Brominated Flame Retardants).
PVC is an inexpensive materials and durable but fiercely opposed by environmental activists, including Greenpeace. These materials contribute to environmental damage because it can not be decompose. Beside that, PVC also producing harmful toxins that can damage the environment.

While BFRs are chemicals added to plastic materials to make it more fire resistant. But as a result, this material will damage the environment. Exceptions to the power cable, all components of the new Aspire claimed to be free of these two types of toxins.

“Chemical Characteristics of PVC and BFRs is to increase the amount of toxic substances such as dioxins and furans on a product. Therefore, the reduction of PVC and BFRs material on Acer products will help protect our environment from the toxicity of electronic goods,” Acer spokesman said as quoted by CNet .

Earlier, in July 2009 Greenpeace has praised Acer, Toshiba and Apple because of their environmentally friendly products. Apple especially praised for being the first in introducing computers that free from PVC and BFR.
